Origin of the name: From the Greek "deceive", the name Apatite is evocative.

Color(s): Blue, yellow, colorless, pink, purple. It is often found green to bright blue-green.
History:
The Spanish naturalist Pedro Francisco Dávila (1713-1785) described the mineral and called it "phosphoric stone." A few years later, the German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749-1817) studied the topic. Because of the stone's deceptive appearance, Werner named it "apatite."
In the last years of the 18th century, mineralogists were able to determine the chemical composition of the apatite stone.
